I really like and appreciate your reframe here because it resonates with me personally.
My husband and I moved into our sub 700 square foot home before we were married, just an engaged couple with a dog. It had a yard, which the dog desperately needed and it allowed my husband a *very* small space for a WFH office.
But in three short years we got married and had a child. For just us, combining households for the first time with no time to whittle down our possessions, it was snug but in a good way. (It has a ton of storage space down in the unfinished basement!)
Now? We both want to scream (my toddler does too, just for different reasons). Maybe lock ourselves in separate cabins in the woods and not speak for half a year, exchanging our daughter back and forth until we can breathe again. I'm not exaggerating when I say it is ruining our mental health and eroding our marriage.
So, all that is to say I can't imagine how you all are doing it. It's interesting to hear a different perspective on the situation. We're moving soon to a place more than double our current space and I won't lie, I worry about the drive to buy more just to fill the place up. I may come back to this article when I feel that urge coming on.
It can get so cramped and sometimes, there literally just isn’t space for everyone and everything. Our layout works well for us in this season, but it’s always good to be open to change when life calls for it.
It's nice to see an old home rejuvenated and come back alive. Good luck. Sounds promising.
